Post 2 – Book 1- Introduction

Becoming Menifee Logan & Peggy Gard

Welcome and thank you for reading! This is your chance to read my book as I write it. When completed it will become “Book 1, Becoming Menifee Logan & Peggy Gard”. As indicated by calling it “Book 1” there will be more, in fact 4 in total. All will be published here as written on my new website called “Becoming Us”.

My goal is to introduce you to your ancestors in a compelling way. I intend accomplish this by providing details of their lives and major events in the world around them.

As you are reading this as I write it, the timing of new postings is unpredictable. Getting this to your screens requires research to ensure accuracy and to help us appreciate what their lives were like. I mention this as it is time consuming, so do be patient as I work to get the best product I can in front of you.

A bit of information that may help as you read:

  • References – I have many references that need to be cited. My intent in the book to put them as end notes. That won’t work in this format so all will be footnotes. You can tell which are which as footnotes will be numbers and endnotes letters.
  • Names – For women I will refer to them in two ways. Pre-Marriage I will just use the name they had at that time, for example Agnes McCown. When married I will put their birth surname in parenthesis, for example Agnes Logan (nee McCown).
  • Accuracy – I have worked very hard to provide you both an interesting and accurate account of our ancestors. As I stated above, I will cite sources when I can. In some cases, the data is not conclusive, therefore I will need to present you with a theory. If it works in the story I will explain it, otherwise I will have a separate posting that discusses certain theories.
  • The who- The following surnames will be the focus of this series: Logan, Brockman, Embree, Jackson, Hudgens, Van Schoick, Dalson, Gard, Handy, Archer, and Campbell
    • Other surnames: Bush, McKinley, McCown, Paterson, Jarvis, Burrus, Parker, Salmon, Sneed, Davis, Crowden, Holand, Buys, Caudy, Davidson, Dickson, Hanshaw, Gist, Tetherly, Meryman, Finch, Cheshire, Allison and Elliott

I am hopeful that this will not be a one-way communication. I would be grateful for feedback, especially on areas of accuracy. In addition, I am very hopeful that some of you will find the desire to answer some of the many mysteries that remain. If you are interested in doing so, I would love to work with you to improve our family story. Therefore, please leave comments, feedback, new information or just say hello!

I hope you enjoy this journey.

Sean David Jackson Logan
