Chapter 1 ~1740 – Introductions: The story stars with David and Jane Logan, my earliest known Logan Ancestors, as they sail to the American Colonies
Chapter 2 – 235,000 BCE to 1000 CE – From Africa to the British Isles: Using my yDNA I track the movements of my very distant ancestors.
Chapter 3 – 1200 to 1700 – Introducing the Logans: From the origins of the Logan surname to what makes someone Scotch-Irish.
Part II – The Journey to Menifee (Fee) Logan – Note, Menifee is my great grandfather and the 4th great grandson of David Logan
Chapter 4 – 1700 to 1770 – Coming to Virginia: Reviewing oversea and overland journeys in the 1700s then establishing a new settlement in the Virginia Colony.
Chapter 5 – 1775 to 1800 – The war of Independence and New Frontiers: Looking at the lives of William Logan and Agnes McCown (and a few of their siblings) as they experience the Revolutionary war, settling Kentucky and the impact of slavery.
Chapter 6 – 1800 – 1842 – Going to Missouri: William and Agnes Logan’s son William (jr.) Logan marries Martha “Patsy” Hudgens and is the first of several generations of Logan’s in Ray County Missouri. We also explore Martha Hudgens ancestors (3 generations of Hudgens and her mother Dolly McNeely).
Chapter 7 – 1842 to 1890 – The Civil War in Missouri – Through Daniel Logan (son of William Jr.) and Elizabeth Jackson discover what life was like in a state with mixed loyalties. This also opens up a new section of the family tree which will be explored in chapter 8
Chapter 8 – 1700 to 1800 – Becoming Elizabeth Jackson: Looking at the ancestors of Elizabeth Jackson including the Embrees, Brockmans, Burris and a few other interesting branches. Most of whom seemed to move together from VA to KY to MO.
Chapter 9 – 1890 to 1947 – From Missouri to California: The story of Thomas Logan (son of Daniel) and his wife Margaret Van Schoick. Exploring the hazards of the mining industry leading to a 1500 miles move to California. We will also look at Margaret’s parents and her early life living with her uncle. This chapter will end by introducing us to Menifee Logan who we will come back to in part IV of this book.

Part III – The Journey to Margaret “Peggy” Gard
Preface – 1896 – Introducing Peggy Gard: Born to Adam Gard and Frankie Archer (Gard) in Marshall Illinois whose ancestry which will be explored in the following chapters.
Chapter 10 – 1580 to 1730 – Jeremiah Gard possible ancestors: Introducing Jeremiah Gard who lived in Morristown New Jersey (near my childhood home). We will discuss my theory of who his ancestors are, backed by some good circumstantial evidence.
Chapter 11 – 1730 to 1783 – The revolutionary war in New Jersey: Returning to a critical time in US history but in a completely different part of the country through the eyes of Jeremiah Gard.
Chapter 12 -1785 to 1804 – Making shoes in Virginia: Jeremiah’s son Cornelius moves to Hampshire County Virginia where he meets his wife Mary Hancher and her family. This chapter when they settle in Ohio.
Chapter 13 – 1804 to 1840 – A farmer’s life in Ohio: Not wanting to be a shoemaker Timothy (son of Jeremiah and Mary) marries Nancy Davis becoming a farmer. This chapter will include a brief interlude exploring the very interesting life of their son Isaac who seemed to be both a ladies’ man and a horse thief.
Chapter 14 – 1830 to 1866 – Another Jeremiah: A short chapter on Timothy and Nancy’s son Jeremiah who marries Rosanna Brown giving us a chance to briefly meet a new family line.
Chapter 15 – 1866 to 1894 – Meet the Handys – Jeremiah and Rosanna’s son Daniel Gard moves to Illinois and marries Emiline Handy who has a well document ancestry going back to 1700.
Chapter 16- 1755 to 1866 – Early settlers in the mid-west – Emiline ancestors starting with her great grandfather Thomas Handy who brought his family to Clark County Illinois and established fort Handy
Chapter 17 – 1700 to 1755 – The Dutch: Thomas Handy married Sara Dolson whose ancestors lived in Dutchess County New York which is another former home of mine. We will also explore a potential ancestor in the 1600s Teunis Van Dolson who were very early settlers in NY and possibly the founders of Dolsontown.
Chapter 18 – 1894 to 1896 – the Gards and the Archers: We are back in Illinois and meet Adam Gard who is the son of Daniel Gard and Emiline Handy. He marries Frankie Archer and together have Margaret Peggy Gard. The chapter ends with the death of Frankie shortly after giving birth
Chapter 19 – 1760 to 1894 – Meeting Frankie’s ancestors the Campbells, Archers and Finches. This may need 2 chapters. In this family we go to Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Ireland among other locals.
Chapter 20 – 1896 to 1944 – The life of Adam Gard – before we look at Peggy and Fee it is worth exploring the life of Adam Gard who was a soldier and worked for the US state department. It was not a quiet life.
Part IV – Coming to Carmel
Chapter 21 – 1917 to 1940 – This chapter explores the life of Menifee Logan and Peggy Gard through the Great Depression and what brought them to Carmel through the birth of their son John Archer Logan.
